NetRef Helps Schools Maximize Technology as Teaching Tool
with New 2.1 Software
Allows teachers and parents to view daily web activity of students
DULLES, Va., September 10, 2015 —Teachers and administrators can ring in the school year with a new solution for managing Internet access with NetRef version 2.1, which gives schools the ability to allow everything, block everything, or only allow teacher-approved sites per student or by class.
NetRef 2.1 can be synced with the bell schedule, enabling complete control of Internet access schoolwide, by teacher or by class. With the new 2.1 platform, teachers can generate a report of any student’s online activity for the day, or a pie chart of the top five most visited apps or websites of the day—valuable information for teachers, parents and administrators.
“As ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) policies become the norm, school administrators need tools that can manage a host of personal devices without breaking the bank or requiring an IT expert for installation and management,” said George Dotterer, CEO and co-founder of Verite Educational Systems Inc., a spin-out of Verite Group Inc. “NetRef 2.1 helps make teachers’ increasingly complicated responsibility of online supervision even simpler by allowing them to view and modify a student’s web experience in real-time.”
Dotterer helped design NetRef with a group of long-time colleagues who, like him, are experienced technologists and parents concerned for child Internet safety. They came together to extend their passion and know-how to schools through Verite Educational Systems, which will shepherd new and disruptive Internet management tools to the education technology market.
Easy to use and integrate, NetRef has successfully expanded to schools in eight states by helping educators reduce distractions and maximize technology as a teaching tool, with multi-tiered oversight functionality across the school, in the classroom, and by student. NetRef operates with all web browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. It also operates with iOS, Android, ChromeBook and Windows-tablets, along with their respective apps.
